Soldier Dogs

Image
It is with a heavy heart that I bring you the news of the passing of beloved USCG K9 Evy, whom I had the privilege of knowing through my work with the US Coast Guard in the Bay Area. She left this world this morning on her favorite dog bed surrounded by her family (her longtime handler, Chris Hartman, adopted her), and canine buddy Charlie, with whom she enjoyed many happy years of retirement. Evy was almost 15.5. She served for more than eight years as an explosives detection dog at MSST New York, MSST Seattle, and finally MSST San Francisco.  Evy was a special dog: Smart, beautiful, friendly, adventurous, fearless, dedicated, and so good at her job. She was a good, good girl. Evy, rest easy. Your watch is over. Please just watch over your family to help them heal.  Photos courtesy of her former handler/adoptive dad, Chris Hartman. I mixed photos of the glory days of her career with some heartbreaking photos from her last day, today.
